Self-Image is a profound exploration of identity and introspection by Japanese photographer Mika Ninagawa. Released in 2013, this limited-edition photobook (1,500 copies) was published in conjunction with her solo exhibition at the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo. The book presents a curated selection of Ninagawa's monochrome self-portraits, offering an intimate glimpse into her personal world. These images, which had remained largely private until then, showcase her ability to convey vulnerability and strength simultaneously. Accompanying these self-portraits are works from her acclaimed series noir (2010), which delves into the darker facets of contemporary society, and PLANT A TREE (2011), featuring ethereal images of cherry blossoms floating on river surfaces.
